Help to save the Hollywood Billionaires

In this month’s Viz there was the following letter I found amusing;

“Would the Gentleman in the Cinema seat who talked throughout my illegally downloaded camcorder copy of the Uninvited please note that he’s ruining it for everyone else.”

Needless to say this made me giggle somewhat.

However the smile was wiped right from my face after watching last week’s Film 2009 with Jonathan Woss.

There was a story about how the multi, multi billion pound industry is probably losing literarily millions to video piracy. If we don’t stop watching it the industry would be at serious risk.

Well I for one was horrified and spent a sleepless night worrying whether poor Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt would ever make 40 million a movie ever again. Who knows if things got too bad then maybe a hard up Toby Maguire would have to drop his demands to make Spiderman 4 to 20 million just to make ends meet.

And if things carry on like this the Cinemas may have to drop the prices just to get people in to watch. Who the hell would want to pay a mere 2 or 3 quid to watch a film or pay a fiver for a DVD. Do you honestly believe a gigantic popcorn and a 3 gallon cup of coke would really taste as good if they didn’t charge you 20 quid. I for one am not so sure.

Tony and the boys can't wait for the trailers to stop so they can start earning the REAL money

Tony and the boys can't wait for the trailers to stop so they can start earning the REAL money

Despite not having any evidence or even giving an example they said video piracy has connections with organised crime. If everyone knew this then many would stop watching it. Well I agree, look what this did to boxing when everyone found out much of the money going into the game was from gangsters. Almost nobody watches it now, and the forth coming Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao fight may fail to generate even $300 million.

So stop it now!

No more online feeds or bit torrent downloads or the film industry may be forced to take a pay cut.

Join me now and boycott Piracy, save the Hollywood Billionaires

(Can I just point out that I don’t watch Pirate copies of film generally cos the quality is crap. However ,after this story I am seriously considering persevering with it in future)

If Pablo Escobar spent less time building cocaine factories but instead bought a camcorder and nipped to his local Odeon, would he be alive today?

Just one more thing i feel should be made clear.
those guys who make comments in the little box next to the said torrent that you may be trying to expose as a criminal, they think they are helping the “downloader” to make a decision on how many seeders and leachers are making your life easier, well they make me so angry , They are just like drug dealers in my opinion …”go on its safe you know you want to”… Well i can see right through them they dont fool me. I will continue to make my own decisions, on weather or not a download is safe or not. sorry but it has to be said . Just say no to download dealers they are scum.;.)

    Well said m8 n1

  8. Mr Kalmar, well I don’t know where to start on this one. For openers, being part of the industry (and not being a billionaire) I really can’t condone piracy, it is theft and a little bit ‘gypo’ in my eyes. It’s probably the latter part that concerns me most to be honest. Most of us in the film industry are not, or never will be rich. Most people who actually can find work earn between I’d say 20-40K in the UK film industry, around the same as a low limit multi tabler. I’m with you bro, fuck Mr Cruise et al, but it’s us little guys who take it up the tail pipe from piracy. Here’s a little industry knowledge for you. Film 4 invested in Slumdog Millionaire, without them there would be no movie, period. However, although the film has now grossed over 300 Million guess how much their return is… $4 Million. That’s how the numbers work, this industry is harder to find an edge in than multitabling Omaha with Durrr while shooting Absinth. Sure the distributors are probably raping the shit out of them, but Film 4 and consequently the producers (like me!) who people like film 4 cold owe money to get sweet FA. And that a film that cost 15 mill and made 300, which by the way is almost impossible. Anyway, rant over. I haven’t got time for piracy, it’s one of the things which cripples our industry and I love my industry. Peace.

  17. Knowing, is good film m8 well worth watching, but not as a cam, that would just go against the grain. Dont search iso hunt and click on the first torent. They may have checked it for viruses, but its wrong,i would say 6/10 for the vid and 3/10 for audio, (only works on 1 chanell) but watchable, …Why people would watch this sub standard new release .only god knows. I will let you know if another criminal watches such rubbish cam coppies. I have got my eye on them.

  18. Mick says:

ADTHE.net are bad people and should be avoided at all costs. Their decent quality sports coverage is just compounding the issue of free streams and could eventually jeopardise John Terrys’ betting stash.

  19. To save them, you must first know how many there are; therefore, within the U.S.A.alone – 687 persons
